Spring In The Air?
A complete contrast to last week's walk- I decided on a John Merrill route I've done a couple of times before, from the River Trent at Burton Joyce to Hazleford Ferry, then across fields and through woods back to Burton Joyce, 17 miles in all.
It turned out to be 17 miles of pure hell- freezing cold, driving horizontal icy rain that threatened to freeze my face off, wet slippery mud, sheets of water- a real test of endurance! I was really glad of the flask of hot coffee I decided to take with me. I had to put my hands under my armpits for a few minutes when I got back to the car to get enough feeling back into them to let me drive home!
I did manage to run quite a bit of it though, especially along the river. And I did have a little chuckle at Gunthorpe Locks, where the Canal and River Trust are obviously becoming dog friendly...
